Hit by a mine, a crippled submarine sinks to the sea floor, killing all but twelve of its crew - only eight of whom can escape. Stiff upper lips are brandished for'ard, aft and amidships, except by the always emotional Attenborough, who is reduced to a hysterical wreck by the thought of his slow demise. If the claustrophobia gets a bit too much for you, you might like to speculate upon the fact that this was originally a stage play.
