Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Based on what looks like an unfinished script written by his late father, Nick Cassavetes' film - about the troubled, on-off relationship between lowlife boozers Eddie and Maureen (the two Penns), the latter taking up with a steadier type (Travolta) while Eddie serves time - merely shows the gulf between the sloppily 'naturalistic' mannerisms on view here and the kind of authentic psychological and emotional epiphanies John Cassavetes used to give us. Harry Dean Stanton provides some much needed humour, but the film's celebratory attitude towards a dangerously wild love that defies logic and convention lacks depth and genuine insights.
