From Time Out Film Guide

Very much the Cat and the Canary formula, set in an old dark house with the wisecracks flying and the secret panels flapping, while Willie Best provides his usual study in knock-kneed terror. Cheaply made but moderately amusing/exciting, thanks largely to the accomplished cast, with Smith as the heiress whose three previous fiancés have come to grisly grief, Morris as the young man hired for bait, Hale as the bumbling detective, and Marshall as the intrepid girl reporter determined to fathom the mystery.
