The Soul to Soul Festival was staged in Ghana to mark the 14th anniversary of the country's independence. It was basically a 'roots' idea: getting black American musicians and singers to perform alongside native artists. It doesn't look as if it worked, and the film certainly doesn't have any tricks up its sleeves to make it work. Some of the performances are great (notably Flack and Pickett), but the filming is hopelessly dull; and the spliced-in travelogue interludes don't help at all.Author: TR
