Die Spinnen (1919)
Director: Fritz Lang
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Lang's third venture as a director, which he also scripted. Often reminiscent of Feuillade in its delirious invention and tongue-in-cheek humour, it's a wild and woolly serial about a secret society of arch-criminals who plan (of course) to dominate the world, and make a start by initiating a quest for the fabulous lost treasure of the Incas. Fiendish cruelties, fluttering heroines, and Oriental villains are all welded together in some wonderfully exotic settings by Lang's superb architectural sense. Two projected further instalments were never filmed, although Lang had already prepared the scripts.Author: TM
