What is a man to do when the accidental death of his wife leaves him alone with a 14-year-old stepdaughter who keeps crawling into his bed with the dewy-eyed persistence of Humbert Humbert's Lolita? The answer, wrapped up in yards of dreary solemnity before ultimately blowing up into absurdity, provides some polite porn designed for bourgeois coffee tables. Not one of Blier's more successful provocations.
