Stir (1980)
Director: Stephen Wallace
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The title has it: indicating just what Wallace has done (rather well) with the choicest ingredients of prison-pic precursors from Riot in Cell Block 11 to Scum. Within the common angry blend of casual sadism and communal solidarity, though, the individualised confrontation of reluctant opponents neatly re-emphasises the mutually brutalising effect of a repressive penal system.Author: PT
