Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot (1992)
Director: Roger Spottiswoode
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Stallone plays LA cop Joe Bomowski, confirmed slob, who finds his life disrupted when his bossy mom Tutti (Getty) comes to visit: she regales strangers with baby stories, does housework at 3am, and interferes in his romance (with JoBeth Williams). After witnessing a murder, Tutti becomes embroiled in the subsequent investigation, dispensing wisecracks and threatening the villain (Rees) with a good spanking. Most of the blame for this unimaginative effort can be attributed to the script, but Spottiswoode's flat direction doesn't help. He seems to have given up on his actors: Stallone merely goes through the motions, while Getty suffers when deprived of the ensemble playing and sharper writing offered on TV's The Golden Girls.Author: CM
