The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939)
Director: HC Potter
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Fred and Ginger's last partnership (until their reunion in 1949 with The Barkleys of Broadway) was a nostalgic biopic about a famous ballroom couple from World War I days whose career was cut short by an air accident. Ably welding dance numbers and plot, courtesy of light comedy director Potter, it overcomes its lack of '30s snap and crackle with lavish doses of elegance and charm to a tango or foxtrot rhythm.
