Streets of Gold (1986)
Director: Joe Roth
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Brandauer plays an exiled Soviet boxing champ, now a self-pitying drunk and washer-up in a New York Russian restaurant. Banned from fighting in the Soviet Union for using his anti-Semitic coach as a punch-bag, he takes on a couple of local prospects, training them up for a grudge match against a visiting Soviet team. You can guess the rest, right down to the Rocky-style finale. Director Roth never uses a short jab when he can take a wild swing, usually at the cold inhumanity of Soviet society.Author: NF
