Inside Daisy Clover (1965)
Director: Robert Mulligan
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This story of the rise and fall of a '30s musical starlette left audiences rather cold on its release, and it's not hard to see why. Gavin Lambert's screenplay (from his own novel) lives in the land of the ambiguous and fey, which is probably why the film now seems subtle and attractive. Wood's performance is no Meryl Streep number (and arguably the better for it), while Redford as her possibly gay husband is extraordinarily handsome, which all adds to the air of innocence. The songs by André and Dory Previn are nothing to get excited about, though.Author: DT
