After Duffell's impressive England Made Me, this vehicle for Telly Savalas' continuing over-exposure comes as a disappointment. Based around the springing from gaol of a top Nazi general who can tell a band of ageing misfits about a cache of gold, what emerges is a rather forlorn middle-aged men's fantasy. After some awkward exposition and flashbacks over 30 years, the film settles into a knowing heist caper whose script desperately papers over the implausibilities with wisecracks. One moment of high farce in which the general is confronted with an apparently resurrected Führer in his bunker suggests that events might be taking a belated turn for the better.
