Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A fundamental circumstance of the 20th century: the unjustly accused prisoner shut up in some vast, unknowable totalitarian penal system. Not really a predicament to be exploited as a vehicle for a film star (Gere, playing a media executive under arrest in contemporary China), nor one to be crudely decked out as melodrama, complete with heroine, bad guy and final courtroom shoot-out that puts everything to rights. But if you're curious to see what Darkness at Noon might have been like had Koestler written it for Mills & Boon...Author: BBa
