The River Rat (1984)
Director: Tom Rickman
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Tom Rickman was screenwriter on C&W biopic Coal Miner's Daughter in which Tommy Lee Jones played Loretta Lynn's husband. Here, in Rickman's directorial debut, the ever-reliable Jones is first rate as an ex-con visiting his family after an absence of many years and trying to make up for lost time with awkward teenager Martha Plimpton. Regrettably, the film doesn't find a great deal to do with their burgeoning relationship.Author: TJ
