Jailhouse Rock (1957)
Director: Richard Thorpe
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Wrestling with the problem of what to do with a rock'n'roll star, MGM hit on the addled brainwave of using Richard Thorpe, who had made The Student Prince for them three years earlier and had a background in costume musicals and adventures. The story, about a rock star with a prison background, was tougher than some of the other Presley pictures, but the musical numbers especially were shot in the MGM tradition, which was totally wrong for rock.Author: DP
