Action Jackson (1988)
Director: Craig R Baxley
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Sometime stunt co-ordinator Baxley directs this feebly-scripted, sporadically exciting crime pic like a showpiece for his former speciality. He fills the screen with spectacular deaths, metal-crunching car chases and more explosions than you could shake a stick of dynamite at. In between, Weathers (in his first lead role) gets a walk-on part as Action Jackson, a disgraced cop intent on settling old scores with ruthless businessman Dellaplane (Nelson). A few years back, Dellaplane lost Jackson his stripes, his gun and his wife, but now Jackson has linked him to some aggressive union-busting professional hit-men. Weathers looks distinctly uncomfortable whenever the action gives way to reams of plot exposition, anti-drugs sermons, and embarrassing romantic interludes, which is often. Fans of state-of-the-art destruction would seem to be this film's target audience.Author: NF
