From Time Out Film Guide

Neapolitan thriller in which Anna Bonaiuto returns home to investigate the suspicious death of her 70-year-old mother (her near-naked body was found washed up on a beach). She delves into her own memory for clues about her relationship with her parent and the various men in her life. Writer/director Martone uses a noir mystery as an intriguing framework for the exploration of feminist, Freudian and social concerns, and thanks to his firm control of mood, it mostly works. Adventurous and unexpectedly engrossing.
