Young, left deaf by meningitis, is cured by Dr Ladd with an untried serum. She's a socialite, he's from the wrong side of the tracks, but they settle their differences by falling in love. Romantic twaddle, co-scripted by Raymond Chandler, though his touch is evident only in the briefly laconic scene of Ladd's first encounter with Young in a diner.
