None too witty black comedy, loosely based on Stevenson's unfinished novel and set in the first decade of this century. Rigg is the journalist who uncovers a secret organisation of professional killers, and manages to fight it with the help of its leader (Reed), who falls in love with her. Amid all the heavy caricaturing and the funereal pace, only Geoffrey Unsworth's photography of the Venetian scenes is of note.
