Struggling actress Shelley may believe her WASP lover broke with her due to her mom's anti-semitism, but Jewishness hardly impinges on this sentimental comedy about a girl's long-term obsession with her ex. True, there are nice scenes with shrink Wally Shawn, but this is just as much a film about love and life on the fringes of the New York art scene as it is about cultural identity. Slight, light, sturdily performed, and not without charm.
