From Time Out Film Guide

League of Nations pacifism bred some strange fruits, but none stranger than this extravagant hymn to peaceful coexistence. In a vaguely futuristic era beyond 1940, the building of a Transatlantic tunnel is suggested as the solution to the world's problems. As the suspiciously Disraeli-like Prime Minister declares, the tunnel will be 'an artery through which will course the life-blood of our two nations, flowing into the hearts of Anglo-American relations'. In a slow-moving but complex melodrama, Dix and Banks, with their radium drills, televisors, and tough, no-nonsense technology, battle their way through tunnel sickness and high finance treachery, subterranean volcanos and feminine intrigue, to reach at last the light at the end of their 2,000 mile tunnel.
