The daddy of dog movies has down-on-his-luck Yorkshireman Crisp reluctantly selling his son McDowall's prize collie to local aristo Bruce, but after a couple of canine escape attempts the good duke moves himself, dog and granddaughter Taylor to Scotland for some peace of mind. No sooner have they arrived, however, than Lassie's off on the arduous road to her young master. Nobody made this heart-warming fluff better than MGM. (From the novel by Eric Knight.
