Nostalgic, ironic, with flashes of what-might-have-been, this film (made for TV from a story by Pierre Brasseur) by master of melodrama Georges Franju is really a prolonged disappointment. Dealing with a touring theatre group in a provincial French town, it's a lament for the passing of an era of entertainment, and the human emotions it evoked. DMacp.
