Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Corrupt Parisian cop René initiates naive police-academy graduate François (Lhermitte) into the advantageous corruption of the sleazy Goutte d'Or quarter in Paris, where shirts, meals, drink, whores and drugs are there for the taking - provided one turns a blind eye to certain criminal activities. Noiret is in his element as the slobbish René, Lhermitte's metamorphosis is nicely handled, and director Zidi's attention to the back-street milieu helps to sustain a believable air of comic amorality.

Posted on Nov 19 2007 09:47 This DVD is available on Amazon.fr under its French title 'Les Ripoux' but unfortunately without a subtitle track, meaning it's not much use to non-French speakers.

Posted on Aug 09 2007 08:57 I saw this film in our local arts cinema (yes, I'm from the UK) a couple of years after release. Haven't seen it since but am now looking for it on DVD, as I enjoyed it so much. A mixture of thriller, action and comedy - made me laugh out loud in a packed cinema - very embarrassing!
