The last Ealing film actually made at the famous studios before the move to Borehamwood, this paean to the middle-class copper's lot (with Scotland Yard 'tec Hawkins harassed at home and at work) was, like The Blue Lamp of six years before, highly influential on British TV cop shows of the '60s. As if to stress the genre's development, a close viewing reveals Stratford Johns as a mere constable in those days.
