One of the marker posts of Hamer's decline after Kind Hearts and Coronets, this revenge thriller (from a novel by Howard Clewes) has John Mills, trying hard to summon up some grit, as a vengeful convict who's just spent 12 years inside for a crime he didn't commit. Hamer makes the most of the marshes and mud flats of the Thames Estuary, but the over-familiar plotting never springs to life.
