Loverboy (1989)
Director: Joan Micklin Silver
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Continuing in his niche as put-upon teen stud, Dempsey plays hopeless student Randy (who else?). Dumped by his disillusioned girlfriend (Valen), he's also in imminent danger of having college funds cut off by angry Dad (Ginty). A summer job delivering pizzas introduces him to rich, sophisticated Barbara Carrera, and before long he's on call to her friends, all wealthy, frustrated wives who pay handsomely for his services (wild sex, cosy chats, dancing sessions). By some strange logic, the accumulated sums are supposed to get Randy back to college, and thus back into the arms of his girl. But that's if deceived husbands remain ignorant. This is very silly stuff, but mildly engaging none the less. Silver adeptly juggles the set pieces, orchestrating a frantic, slapstick climax; and the likeable Dempsey is supported by a dependable cast, including Kirstie Alley as a vengeful doctor and Carrie Fisher as a body-builder's cynical wife.Author: CM
