Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Martial arts hero Van Damme finally joins the major league Action Men with this futuristic picture, originally developed as a Sylvester Stallone vehicle. He and Lundgren are UniSols - Vietnam vets brought back from the dead and transformed into state-of-the-art cyborg soldiers. Their memories have been wiped, but during an SAS-style action, Van Damme flashes back to a My Lai-type incident in 'Nam... Mostly this is an amalgam of ideas, images and whole scenes lifted from other movies. Emmerich, director of the low-budget stiff Moon 44, moves things along at a cracking pace, staging the fights and senseless destruction with savage efficiency. No prizes for originality, then, but full marks for giving Van Damme ample opportunity to display his limited talents to maximum advantage.
