From Time Out Film Guide

Very much the product of its New York setting, in the well-established tradition of Annie Hall or a novel like Fear of Flying. The heroine is a woman suddenly deserted by her husband. Though enviably rich, smart and healthy, she suffers. She moves towards a kind of feminism, motivated by her touchiness concerning the men who step blithely into her life offering help, homes, approval, sex, or just a friendly drink. They're all the young middle-aged. They jog, take pills, vacations, analysis, and laugh at themselves. They're absurd and at the same time perfectly believable.
