Unleashed (2005)
Director: Louis Leterrier
Movie review
From Time Out New York
French one-man movie machine Luc Besson has written a screenplay that reconfigures Beauty and the Beast into a Brit-gangster fable whereby a human attack dog (Li) escapes the brutal discipline of his master (Hoskins), a seething little fireplug of a Glaswegian loan shark, and regains his lost humanity among kinder souls. Besson's freaky fairy tale wallows in the same slightly creepy sentimentality that drove his own Léon, in which grizzled hit-man Jean Reno plays surrogate dad to 12-year-old broken blossom Natalie Portman. But Li's dramatic turn is no match for his fists of fury.Author: MM
