From Time Out New York

Paris Hilton turns out to be a perfectly serviceable B-movie horror starlet in House of Wax, dishing up some bitchy comic relief and dying a spectacular death. Drat. Looks like those wax-related barbs will have to wait. Indeed, while the flick as a whole commits the dual cardinal sins of not being scary and dishonoring its 1953 namesake—a garish, extremely fun thriller to which the new version can't hold a candle (ha!)—it does include some grace notes (particularly its vaguely surreal production design) that make its tenure less than enraging.
