Executive produced by Martin Scorsese, this affectionate documentary is a coda to the multipart bluescentric PBS series that the music-mad filmmaker also godfathered. Despite the A-list performances in this theatrical release—Buddy Guy, Mavis Staples, B.B. King—fans of the small-screen edition may still find themselves singing the blues, since none of the directors who steered the amazing TV segments returned to guide this concert movie. The job was instead left in the hands of slick Hollywood filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, whose roots as a music-video and commercials director serve him too well in cranking out a predictably pretty, musically impeccable and completely toothless tribute.
