It's hard to say whether Stephen Chow's latest will be the American breakthrough for its star—Asia's current answer to Buster Keaton. But it will be our country's loss if it isn't. Both a semiserious martial-arts film and a parody of the genre, the movie has the sort of unbridled energy that Hollywood's anemic comedies lack. Welcome to the wonderful world of Chow-socky, where a wuxa pian ("heroic tale") suddenly morphs into a live-action Looney Tune (watch out for those billboards when you break into a Road Runner sprint!), and a simple fight scene turns into an exaggerated CGI free-for-all.Author: DF
