From Time Out New York

Whatever happened to Hal Hartley? The former indie darling hasn't turned out a well-received work since 1997's Henry Fool. His latest, a sci-fi dystopia about a disaffected ad exec (Sage) bucking society's rampant consumerism, features many of Hartley's trademarks—deadpan acting and stunning leading ladies—but it's also grating and unoriginal. Not surprisingly, the director's interpretation of the genre owes more to Godard's Alphaville than anything helmed by George Lucas, but at least the latter gave us some cool F/X to go along with the pretentious dialogue.
