From Time Out New York

This formulaic vehicle presumes that the softening of a macho character by a group of youngsters is an endless mine of comic gold. However, Martin Lawrence doesn't have much game as a belligerent college basketball coach who accepts a job offer from his old middle-school team, as a PR move to save his faltering career. As Coach Roy leads the Mount Vernon Junior High Smelters to victory, he warms up to his charges and reassesses his priorities. The story is as predictable as a hard foul from Ron Artest, but it refrains from taking too many cheap shots.
