From Time Out New York
You'd think a venture into the unexpected territory of the mentally disabled would save this tiresome Farrelly Brothers–produced comedy. Steve Barker (Knoxville) poses as an intellectually challenged athlete in order to rig the Special Olympics and scam some much-needed cash for himself and his sleazy uncle Gary (Cox). But the predictable trajectory of a well-intentioned guy who attempts an unrealistic scheme to get himself out of a jam is just too lackluster to be salvaged, despite a handful of convincing performances. To their credit, the filmmakers, having consulted the Special Olympics itself, managed the potentially controversial fun-making without stepping on any track-shoe–clad toes.Author: KW
