I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007)
Director: Dennis Dugan
Synopsis
Firemen Chuck and Larry are best friends willing to do anything for each other, so much so that when civic red tape prevents Larry from naming his own two kids as his life insurance beneficiaries, Chuck agrees to bend the rules and pretend to be his domestic partner on some city forms. But when a local bureaucrat becomes suspicious, the new couple’s arrangement turn into a citywide issue. Forced to improvise as love-struck newlyweds, Chuck and Larry must pretend to be living a life of domestic bliss under the same roof.
Movie review
From Time Out New York
And this homo pronounces Hollywood totally chickenshit. What’s worse: a film that engages in fag jokes for two hours or one that does it only for the first half, devoting its remaining time to promoting the limpest liberalism? Chuck and Larry wants it both ways, indulging in ass obsession and the lamest queer stereotypes since Franklin Pangborn was in short pants, then hoisting the rainbow flag at half-mast in a panicky cry for tolerance.
Chuck (Sandler) and Larry (James) are het FDNY pals who get hitched in Canada so the latter, a widower with two kids, will have a beneficiary in case something happens to him on the job. To make the ruse seem legit, both try to figure out how to be the king of queens. And of course there’s nothing like pretending to be gay to find the love of a good woman.
Our sexual orientation “has absolutely nothing to do with who we are as people,” booms Dan Aykroyd’s fire chief toward the film’s end. Not really, Mary: Who one chooses to do it with is the very foundation of who we are. If the movie really wanted to be gay-friendly, we would’ve seen Sandler and James smooch. On the plus side: Real ’mos Richard Chamberlain and Lance Bass make welcome appearances. And at least the term chubby chaser will be introduced into the lexicon of many Americans.

In no way was this movie to be taken seriously. It was just entertainment! - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Aug 05 2007 20:24 Ugh..this is the era of selective outrage. Everyone, including fags, enjoys a good laugh at overblown stereotypes. If you cant laugh at yourself, then dont laugh at others self righteous twinks.

- Posted on Aug 03 2007 17:12 I was going to see Talk To Me with some friends but we aere late and the Arclight theaters don't let you buy a ticket if your late so we had to see Chcuk & Larry. At first I pitched a fit. Just knowing it was an Adam Sandler movie I expected only to laugh once or twice. Boy was I surprised when I laughed out loud through the entire movie. Maybe it was the 2 vodka tonics from the Arclight bar, but I was definitely surprised by how funny this movie was. I thought the jokes were funny without being mean spirited. If anything, it helps society and homophobes to laugh at themselves instead of laughing at gay people.

- Posted on Aug 03 2007 05:28 Lets be frank.... this was a movie designed to get cheap laughs out of gay stereotypes, and at the end try to come clean with a tolerance message. Nice try. it was offensive in every way. Adam Sandler has no talent and this movie is a waste of time.

- Posted on Aug 02 2007 01:16 I thought the movie was great. I thought there was no point in the two kissing because then the film would have stopped at that point with them being free. The film didn't ever come down to anyone being gay or not it came down to the question of how far somebody would go and stick their neck out for a friend. The film was great and may have bashed gays or may not, have I don't know, but the movie wasn't based on gays. The movie was based upon an unbinding friendship that was unbreakable no matter what the cost and their friendship being like this changed a lot of peoples lives around them. The movie was very good.

- Posted on Aug 01 2007 12:47 Saw it last night. My wife and I thought it was hilarious. We are in our mid 40's and I am a Career Firefighter. It is what it is..... an entertaining evening out. Most of the fire fighting scenes were bogus as they are in all Hollywood productions, but still entertaining. How can you not laugh out loud at this film?

- Posted on Jul 30 2007 16:19 Yeah, WIl, I guess I should think somewhat about sinful films in general. I guess I just figure it's all fiction and I don't plan on imitating it in real life at all. I apologize for my last post being kind of mean.

I'M GAY -- I DON'T REALLY CARE FOR ADAM SANDLER, BUT WANTED TO SEE THE MOVIE. I THOUGHT IT WAS HILARIOUS!!! I'M NOT EASILY OFFENDED. I DID FIND THE GAY STEROTYPES KIND OF STUPID, BUT OVERALL, IT WAS PRETTY DARN HUMOROUS!!!

Wil, you sure are right. I guess now I better go burn every movie I have that contains homosexuality.
My point is, just because it contains something that's goes against the Bible, doesn't mean the movie is horrible. Guess what, killing is wrong. Oh no! That must mean that about 80% of the movies that exist are now horrible. Better go burn my copies of all those films. - Report as inappropriate
