I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007)
Director: Dennis Dugan
Synopsis
Firemen Chuck and Larry are best friends willing to do anything for each other, so much so that when civic red tape prevents Larry from naming his own two kids as his life insurance beneficiaries, Chuck agrees to bend the rules and pretend to be his domestic partner on some city forms. But when a local bureaucrat becomes suspicious, the new couple’s arrangement turn into a citywide issue. Forced to improvise as love-struck newlyweds, Chuck and Larry must pretend to be living a life of domestic bliss under the same roof.
Movie review
From Time Out New York
And this homo pronounces Hollywood totally chickenshit. What’s worse: a film that engages in fag jokes for two hours or one that does it only for the first half, devoting its remaining time to promoting the limpest liberalism? Chuck and Larry wants it both ways, indulging in ass obsession and the lamest queer stereotypes since Franklin Pangborn was in short pants, then hoisting the rainbow flag at half-mast in a panicky cry for tolerance.
Chuck (Sandler) and Larry (James) are het FDNY pals who get hitched in Canada so the latter, a widower with two kids, will have a beneficiary in case something happens to him on the job. To make the ruse seem legit, both try to figure out how to be the king of queens. And of course there’s nothing like pretending to be gay to find the love of a good woman.
Our sexual orientation “has absolutely nothing to do with who we are as people,” booms Dan Aykroyd’s fire chief toward the film’s end. Not really, Mary: Who one chooses to do it with is the very foundation of who we are. If the movie really wanted to be gay-friendly, we would’ve seen Sandler and James smooch. On the plus side: Real ’mos Richard Chamberlain and Lance Bass make welcome appearances. And at least the term chubby chaser will be introduced into the lexicon of many Americans.

- Posted on Jul 28 2007 10:19 I saw this last night with my fiance.. & we & the entire audience were rolling! I completely enjoyed this & laughed outloud sooo hard! I have gay & lesbian friends & have also heard from them that they enjoyed this movie! The thing that got on my nerves is the "church people"... I know folks are like that... I am a Christian, and very involved in my church... and I am NOT like that... I'd like to smack the tar out of those that are actually. I would GLADLY see it again, and can't WAIT for it to come out on DVD!

It's one of the funnier movies I've seen recently. The fact that so many people whine about how they thought we've "evolved as a nation" makes me laugh. The fact is, we have evolved. We've evolved to the point that we can make movies like this and laugh about them. All I've heard are straight people bashing this movie because it's too harsh towards the gay population. Honestly, I haven't heard anything about any gays actually protesting the film. To finally evolve as a society, we need to be open minded towards this movie as well as others that dare to step into the taboo field of homosexuality.
Anyway, the movie was good. Wasn't the best comedy I've seen but it was definitely a good one. It made me laugh until I cried as it did with my friends and the others in the theater I was watching it in. - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Jul 26 2007 20:43 I saw the movie last night and have not laughed out loud so much in a long time, and by the way I am a female. I think that anyone of the appropriate age, (definatelly not a kid or even young teen move) would enjoy this movie. If you do not like this movie then you do not have a sence of humor.

- Posted on Jul 24 2007 15:08 I can understand the some of the censure the film is receiving espcially when aimed at Schneider's "character (if you can call it that)." But, I think the movie did a decent job it wasn't the funniets or the worst. I'll admit it was blantantly sexist with it's portrayal of female co-stars, but it's a movie about firefighters in Brooklyn with a shot of Biel's backside, y'know they were going a predominantly male audience. This isn't supposed to be Brokeback Mountain people!

- Posted on Jul 24 2007 00:02 I thought this film was one of the funniest adam sandler has made. This movie was obviously targeted to an adolecent audience much like everyother adam sandler movie so of course if your a 40 yr old guy your not going to think its that funny, This is a comdey that in order to watch it you need an open mind. Over analyzing the film of course won't make it funny, it's a movie that provides with many hilarious senerios. In order to actually enjoy it you need to actually be able to take a joke for what it really is.. just a joke

- Posted on Jul 23 2007 11:57 How can so many people be wrong about this movie? It was tops at the box office, even beating out Harry Potter's new adventure and John Travolta in drag. I think this movie was actually a hoot. At the end when there was a speech about accepting gay people, the audience at the cinema cheered out loud. I don't think it was a homophobic crowd that went to this movie. You had to be quite open-minded to go in the first place. I also think that the humour reminded me a bit of the British series "Little Britain" which was a huge hit and was extremely political incorrect. Many of the jokes were about gays and sex in this series and the main actor was himself gay in real life.

I saw this movie last night and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I hadn't laughed out loud so much in years. Yes, it is vulgar, farcial and somewhat over-the-top, but it is a good laugh and I left smiling.
And by the way -- I am a woman, lesbian, over 30, and I approve of this movie. All those naysayers who say that this movie is for straight men only are wrong. I think this is a very funny, slapstick comedy that ultimately has a few positive things to say, even if it is a fairly formula Hollywood comedy.
I thought the scene where Chuck and Larry wake up and the cleaning lady is in the middle was just so funny. This movie was full of stereotypes and at times political incorrect, but come on guys, chill and don't take everything so seriously. It's okay to laugh... - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Jul 23 2007 09:33 I saw this movie yesterday, and the only people who will think this is funny are straight men who have no respect for women (Jessica Biel completely disgraces herself all in the name of a good ass shot) and could care less about the difficulties that homosexuals have had for the last 30-40 years gaining some kind of understanding or tolerance. The films website acts like the directors/writers worked with GLAAD to make sure they weren't being too offensive - I don't buy it! This movie was pure garbage. Boo Adam Sandler!!

- Posted on Jul 23 2007 02:11 I refuse to see this movie.. while it sounds like they try to make up for their homophobia toward the end (according to Ms. Anderson's review above), I find the ads so incredibly offensive, there is no way I'm setting foot in the theatre! I thought we were slightly more evolved as a society than this.. when I first saw the trailer several months ago, I sat there, shocked, thinking "maybe this would've flown like.. 30 years ago..?" I am bloody sick of the rampant homophobia in movies and television (even if it is presented as being "all in good fun"); cheap, cheap laughs, even for Adam Sandler.
