Abdel Kechiche’s follow-up to L’Esquive (Games of Love and Chance) (2003) shares its sister film’s aesthetic of rapid-fire verbiage and off-the-cuff camerawork. But this look at a shipyard stiff who decides to open a fish couscous restaurant feels like a major step forward for the French-Tunisian director, and his portrait of a diaspora community is funny, tragic and totally unforgettable.
