From Time Out New York

Outtakes aren’t second-rate when they’re left over from one of the greatest rock docs of all time. A worthy companion to the Dylan flick Don’t Look Back, D.A. Pennebaker’s collage of precious moments from Zimmy’s legendary 1965 U.K. tour covers more awkward encounters with starstruck fans and ignorant interviewers. But the meat of the film consists of live performances of songs such as “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding),” onstage, in parlors and in backstage green rooms, including impromptu duets with Joan Baez. This footage easily earns the proper treatment it gets here.

Posted on Dec 05 2007 10:04 What a great little film. It really stands on its own rather than as merely a companion piece to DONT LOOK BACK. And its nice to see a lighter side of Dylan on display. Just shows what you can do with editing. Its amazing that some of this footage didnt make it into DLB. Pennebaker truly did a splendid job of giving these outtakes center stage and crafting a real story out of them, rather than just stringing out some messy outs. A thoroughly enjoyable experiment in filmmaking!
