Killer Movie (2008)
Director: Jeff Fisher
Movie review
From Short Review - NY
** (Two stars)
If you had to direct a show like The Simple Life, as Killer Movie's writer-director Jeff Fisher did, chances are you’d probably want to stab someone. That seems to be the germ of inspiration that led to this feature debut. (Fisher's other credits include gems like The Real World/Road Rules Challenge and Nimrod Nation.)
In this formulaic horror movie, a television crew is terrorized by a masked killer who films his own “reality” footage while he kills them. The, uh, "hero" in this tale is Jake, an up-and-coming Hollywood player who is sent to a remote North Dakota town to shoot a reality show about an underdog hockey team. But—OMG!—people are winding up dead left and right, and—whoa, dude!—did I just see a guy with a mask outside my window? Sadly, that's about the level of shock provided by this uninspired effort, which plays the genre so straight and employs such standard horror conventions, it ruins any possibility of suspense. (Sample dialogue: “Lance? Quit messing around! Lance???”) Despite a few clever jokes and one-liners, the film becomes tedious and predictable faster than you can say, “That’s hot.”—Dan Shulman-Means, associate online producer

- Posted on Apr 28 2008 17:00 Methinks most of these comments are coming from people associated with the film. Killer Movie wasn't bad, but it also wasn't good either. Works better as a comedy than as a horror film. No suspense or atmosphere or mood. No nudity, hardly any gore, just a few specks of blood. Most of the actors are awful. The direction is flat. The writing is uninspired. The end is stupid beyond belief. This movie will be lucky to even get released much less be a hit.

- Posted on Apr 19 2008 10:21 it's great that the director actually worked on reality TV shows. it's like this is his way of coping with the painful memories -- by making a movie about a reality TV crew being MURDERED. i will see it.

- Posted on Apr 18 2008 14:13 Great concept, especially for our time that has reality TV at an all time high. Jeff Fisher has a brilliant mind and I trust he knows what he's doing. Great trailer, great foils, Hollywood meets middle america, Comedy meets slasher. This film looks like it as the potential to have all the makings of a successful summer blockbuster. And I'll be first in line.

- Posted on Apr 18 2008 11:15 Interesting and original concept. I'm really looking forward to the release. Cast is awesome and if the movie makes me laugh one minute and scream the next like the previews I've seen, then that's completely amazing.

- Posted on Apr 15 2008 18:35 I actually saw a private viewing of Killer Movie and it's just fabulous! Unlike other horror/mystery/thriller venues it's got all the glamour, verve and fun of Hollywood--inside glimpses of what it's really like to be on set and behind the scenes of what's been one of television's most popular phenomenas. I think Jeff Fisher and the entire cast and crew did a great job. There's a lot of talent in and around this film. It's rare to find humor, romance, lots of sex and fun while people are being slashed! Watching LA collide with Middle America is a real treat. Be scared and have fun! Go see it!
