From Time Out New York

Shy, sheltered teen Mercer (Pucci) goes looking for himself in all the wrong places in this slight indie drama. Still mourning his recently deceased mother, the 19-year-old hits the road in a stolen car, hoping to locate his estranged older half brother and crossing paths with a variety of standard-issue eccentrics—neohippies, an S&M pornographer, white-trash thugs, a slutty nymphet (Malone)—while falling for the hot car’s owner (Deschanel) via cell phone. It’s cute, familiar and forgettable, except for having spawned the indie-pop duo She & Him, made up of Deschanel and M. Ward, who composed the film’s original music.
