Movie review

From Time Out New York

An oh-my-God-level disaster that’ll make you wonder if Hollywood actually hates us, The Love Guru tempts our zero-stars rating—and not just for the cringeworthy vamping of its out-of-touch star, Mike Myers. Pitka, his purring, creeptastic faux healer (more appropriate for an SNL skit circa 1976), is sent on a task that may excite Canadians only: psychically heal a cuckolded hockey star in time for the Stanley Cup. But the crimes of this movie are hardly limited to uninspired plot. Try groaner hobbit jokes, Ben Kingsley as a violently cross-eyed Indian mentor (take his Oscar away), sword fighting with piss-drenched mops and a climax involving on-ice elephant coitus. Irredeemable.

Posted on Jun 23 2008 16:04 This movie sucks, of course, but a lot of U.S. comedians suck as well...in fact, even Eddie Murphy or Steve Martins forgot how to make good comedies. So, if canadians are obnoxious, so are the U.S.actors.

Posted on Jun 23 2008 16:00 I agree that Myers is awful, but WHO is playing good comedies in U.S. nowadays? The last yankee comedy I had seen was 'Bowfinger', and I can´t remeber other good yankee comedy for the last 15 years...

Posted on Jun 21 2008 17:17 Not only does the movie look horrific due to the lame, irritating characters, the trailer for a movie called The Love Guru seems to focus on making fun of a little person. Mike Myers, make another Austin Powers movie and then retire, better yet, please do not make another movie at all.

Posted on Jun 21 2008 13:27 Always hated Myers, so I'm glad to see the rest of the world is catching up. Canada has pulled a big joke on the US, sending us so many horrid, obnoxious comedians (Myers, Tom Green, Jim Carrey, etc) and wretched singers (Celine Dion, Alanis Morrisette, Avril Lavigne, etc.) and seeing them become big stars here that we're forever unable to get rid of. Canada's loss is definitely NOT our gain. Hopefully this turd of a movie is the final nail in the execrable career of Mike Myers.
