Meet Dave (2008)
Director: Brian Robbins
Movie review
From Time Out New York
It’s the brotherhood from another planet in Meet Dave, a silly family comedy in which the intrepid Captain (Murphy) leads a pint-size team from the planet Nill in a quest to steal salt from Earth’s oceans. Their intergalactic spaceship takes the form of a humanoid craft called Dave. Attempting a more succinct explanation of the harebrained, dime-store sci-fi plot is futile—at no point does the story make any sense. Watching Murphy robotically walk around the city does stir nostalgia for the brilliant SNL skit where he masqueraded as an uptight white guy, but that formidable comic actor is long gone. And, as Norbit proved, vast alterations of onscreen body mass isn’t a reliable recipe for laughs.Author: Drew Toal
