Movie review

From Time Out New York

Nothing like a gritty, gaunt B flick to cut those studio behemoths down to size. Felon is an especially raw prison movie, largely shot in the dehumanizing New Mexico State Penitentiary. In addition to its central story of home defender Wade (Dorff) getting a murder rap and slowly losing his identity in the superviolent clink, the film does a better-than-average job of depicting the pressures on guards, trainees and families on the outside. No actor truly breaks out of the uniform adequacy, except for Val Kilmer, inventive as ever as a bearded, Zen-like lifer.

Posted on Sep 02 2009 05:42 Wow. I was totally suprised by this movie. I was gripped right from the start by this powerful prison drama. The acting is as good as it gets, the story was extremely moving (I'm not sure if it is a true story). This film should have been an academy award winner as it is truly flawless. Probably the best film I have ever seen. It ticked all the boxes for me.

Posted on Jul 16 2009 02:26 Gripped from the get-go as well. These smaller indie style films lately seem to be QUITE good. Nice to see Kilmer and Dorff back on the job in a good film.

that I have seen, surprising it not did receive more media buzz than it did

Posted on Feb 10 2009 20:08 Awesome, a very powerful and disturbing film. Hooked in right from the play button being pressed. It's just one of those films whereby escapism trully encapsulates your undivided attention at the mere thought of having to go through what life through at him.

Posted on Oct 02 2008 01:38 such a good movie. The makers of this movie obviously did everything they could to try and emulate the horror life in a true state prison.

Posted on Sep 01 2008 07:42 I would highly recommend this movie, however being a big fan of the show Oz I felt I had seen this before. Val Kilmer gives a standout performance.
