I Can't Think Straight (2007)
Director: Shamim Sarif
Movie review
From Time Out New York
I Can’t Think Straight is Shamim Sarif’s second lesbo flick this month to feature the same lead actors (Sheth and Ray) playing damsels who fall for each other despite familial opposition. Locations aside (this one’s set in modern-day London, not 1950s South Africa), it’s hard to tell the films apart. The twice-told tale must be important to Sarif; she’s so blinded by narrative thrust that she forgets to wield the camera with imagination. The comedic touches are well wrought, but there’s a lot of plodding, earnest discussion about Palestine and Israel, when the focus should be on the Lebanese. Sorry—the lesbians.Author: Anna King
