Movie review

From Time Out New York

Not a remake of the sturdy Ray Milland chiller from 1944 but a normalized, surprisingly restrained version of the stylish K-horror smash A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), The Uninvited may strike even viewers who don’t know the original as disarmingly familiar. A thriller in which Dad’s new girlfriend probably killed Mom and will stop at nothing to prevent that discovery? It’s almost charming to see directors make one of those. (Almost.) The movie hardly plays fair, and Elizabeth Banks is an unconvincing gorgon, but Emily Browning is as adorable as the concept itself.
