Bob Funk (Campbell) is, yes, in a funk. A salesman at his family’s futon store in Los Angeles, he’s a seasoned pickup artist and semiprofessional drunk, locked in bitter relationships with his coworkers, milder brother (Jemison) and fearsome mother (Lynch regular Grace Zabriskie). Once his downward spiral ends at rock bottom, therapy and redemption beckon. Adapted by writer-director Carlisle from his own play, Bob Funk is terrifically cast and performed, with some good lines. Shame the story and character development are so cliché and banal.Author: Ben Walters
