Passenger Side (2009)
Director: Matt Bissonnette
Movie review
From Time Out Online
LA traffic, indie rock on the soundtrack, and much witty banter from two brothers in the driver’s seat and passenger side comprise the majority of this keen-eared modestly-scaled drama. The in-car setting proves curiously reminiscent of Kiarostami’s ‘10’, but the dialogue-heavy agenda is mainly about teasing out philosophical differences between Scott’s struggling writer (detached observer) and Bissonette’s recovering addict (gung-ho to a fault) as they weave around the city of Angels hoping to trace the latter’s lost love. It’s a pleasant diversion, deft enough in its smooth tonal shifts, but ultimately inconsequential. Scott’s wry Alan Alda-ish delivery is a plus.Author: Trevor Johnston
