Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Clumsy rockumentary on Juan Formell's veteran, Grammy-winning salsa band Los Van Van, following their 30th anniversary world tour. We get the full Van Van soap opera - the band's rolling cast of musicians include conservatoire-trained horn players and rough-edged Havana street vocalists - along with lively film of the band playing at Havana's mammoth outdoor parties and some charming archive footage. The controversy surrounding the US leg of the tour when they were greeted by violent anti-Castro Cuban exiles is annoyingly brushed over in the final ten minutes. Strictly for fans.
